Though just missing out on the points, Toni Finsterbusch enjoyed a successful Le Mans debut. Riding in the fourth 2013 Moto3 World Championship race at the French circuit, he recorded his best result for the season to date. In finishing 18th, the 19-year-old German was just three places off the points in his first ever race around the 4.18 kilometre track. The race was won by the Spaniard Maverick Vinales ahead of countrymen Alex Rins and Luis Salom (all KTM).
“My start was pretty ordinary but then when the race started to sort itself out, I bridged a gap to move up and was good on the brakes,” said Finsterbusch, “Towards the end my rear tyre deteriorated a little. I had to fight hard right up to the last lap but in general I can be satisfied with my result in Le Mans.”
In two weeks time, Finsterbusch and Kiefer Racing will be looking to continue the upturn at the next (02.06.2013) World Championship race in Tuscany, Italy. “Mugello is a track purely for motorbikes and one that’s great fun to ride around. Perhaps I’ll manage to get amongst the points there,” continued Finsterbusch.
